Don’t forget to look at your vehicle’s city sticker expiration date! Due to a relatively recent change in the law, the Chicago City Clerk’s office no longer sends out city sticker renewal reminders. Many people are still unaware of this change, which can result in a $200 fine for every day that you are caught with an expired sticker. Once your sticker expires, you have 30 days to purchase a new sticker without paying an additional late fee of $60. These city stickers now have different expiration dates throughout the year and typically expire about six months after your license plate expires.

The price you pay for your Chicago city sticker depends on the size and weight of your car. For a motorcycle, you typically pay about $46 annually, while a regular car ranges from about $87-$140, and a truck anywhere from $204-$459.
Where can I purchase/renew my sticker?
You can purchase a Chicago city vehicle sticker online or in person. To purchase or renew in person, you must bring your State Vehicle Registration ID Card which includes your VIN and license plate information.
